JASON WILCOX
Personal Stats DOB: 15th July 1971 Birthplace: Bolton Height: 6'0"
Profile United boss David O'Leary swooped to sign Jason Wilcox and make him his seventh signing when he paid Blackburn Rovers £3M for the left winger in a surprise move just before Christmas 1999. He quickly settled in at Elland Road and his contribution to Leeds' Premiership and UEFA Cup campaigns was so impressive he won a call up again to the England squad and was a certainty for Euro 2000 until a groin injury ruled him out. The cloak and dagger negotiations for his arrival in Yorkshire were completed shortly after United's Worthington Cup exit at Leicester City, with Wilcox admitting he was taken aback at the chance to move to Elland Road on a four and a half year contract. Once he heard that a fee had been agreed however, he wasted little time in deciding to make the move to join the title chasing Yorkshire club and become part of the exciting squad being developed, which he predicts will be chasing all the top honours in the game for seasons to come. Jason was Blackburn's longest serving player, having arrived at Ewood Park as a trainee and after breaking through to the first team in 1990, became an integral part of the Jack Walker revolution, notably in the Premiership winning year of 1995. United favourite son David Batty was part of that team and the two players linked up again, this time at Elland Road. Jason picked up his first international cap for England against Hungary a year later, but then his form had been hit by injuries in recent seasons. His first half season with Leeds saw him back to his best and only injury prevented him travelling with England to Euro 2000.
